Find your king of fishing
Eikendal Fly Fishing Estate   Western Cape   private fishing rating
Eikendal Vineyards is situated on the R44, midway between Stellenbosch and Somerset West in the hub of the Helderberg winelands, and has opened access to fly fishing enthusiasts with a host of fly fishing activities. Two dams amidst the vineyards are stocked with Largemouth Bass, Rainbow Trout and Kurper and experts and amateurs alike are invited to sample the excellent fly fishing available. Professional Western Province fly fishing champions have selected Eikendal as a perfect location to offer daily tutorials to the public. Fly fishing clinics for beginners include fly selection and casting technique as well as personalised step-by-step guidance for reeling in that first big whopper.

Eikendal sports a fully-equipped fly fishing store on the farm which can kit out jaded city dwellers and keen visitors for a spur of the moment, laid-back afternoon on the water's edge with no hassle. Future plans to extend the “Eikendal Fly Fishing Experience” even further include self-catering cottages around the dams, perfect to unwind in the lap of country-style luxury. In addition to the fishing Eikendal offers daily cellar tours and wine tastings at its barrel-vaulted cellar headed by winemaker Henry Kotzé, while picnic baskets and lunch can be ordered from Eikendal's resident restaurant, Harald's. Operated by the experienced crew of Flywaters from 08:00 till sunset, fly fishing at Eikendal is open to young and old. Visitors are allowed to keep their catch of the day at R50 per kilogram. Flywaters also offers fly fishing safaris to other hotspots within the Western Cape.
